The Natural Hairstyle & Braid Coalition is Shaping the Future of Natural Haircare in NYS
Who They Are
A natural hair movement has swept through the United States, and New York State is no exception. The NHBC (Natural Hairstyle & Braid Coalition) is an organization established to fight for the rights of people with natural hairstyles to ensure they are represented accordingly in this transformative shift in culture.
This organization was established by a group of dedicated professionals and advocates who saw the significant gaps in education and training for natural and textured hair. Their mission is to prevent the physical and psychological harm that Black women and other individuals with natural hair have endured for far too long due to a lack of proper understanding and expertise in natural hair care. They are committed to advocating for inclusivity and professionalism within the industry, ensuring that natural hair care is not only recognized but also respected and properly supported through adequate training and education for professional stylists s consumers.
Why They Came Together
The NHBC was established with a goal of transforming the natural hair care industry. For years, many individuals with natural and textured hair have faced hair trauma, often resulting from inadequate hair care practices. This trauma is not just physical but also deeply psychological, impacting self-esteem and cultural identity. Recognizing these issues, the founding members of NHBC decided it was time to make a change.
